So wow! Feb 11 & 12th weekend I saw two shows in two nights and it was awesome!! Well mostly awesome (I’ll explain). But first the really awesome parts! I challenged my dislike of driving in NYC and took my little Versa and godchild and her “bf” to a parking garage a block and a half from the New Yorker hotel where I had booked a room for 2 nights. Really nice place and reasonably priced for Manhattan – for a room the size of a walk-in closet. Okay maybe it was a little bigger than that, but not much. lol. There we were met by another young friend who was joining us for the Friday night show: Charlotte Sands, Palaye Royale, & Yungblud! We absolutely ADORE Palaye and have seen them many times at this point and Yungblud is pretty awesome too! Anyway – something I was not aware of, but discovered at this show, that my favorite concert buddy qualifies for “ADA” seating due to their disability. This was awesome because it allowed the 3 kids to have a great view and the ability to sit and actually enjoy the show and not feel crippled the next day. (I wish I had know about this YEARS ago! The kid is a trooper but she / they always ends up hurting for days after a concert.) Anyway, the kids were settled and I was having a blast! Dancing – drinking – drinking and dancing – maybe drinking a little more – hell it feels like forever since we’ve been to a live show and I was not driving again until Sunday so – why not right? Well, at some point I was running down a flight of steps and missed one…. and came down hard on my ass – I mean HARD. Even thought the adrenaline and alcohol kept me going through the evening, I knew I was a bit sore but not really the extent of it. We had an amazing night – the kids got to meet Emerson Barret – the drummer of Palaye Royale after the show and we got a lift back to the hotel from the dad of our 3rd friend. All is good right? Well, not quite.
Once I got back to the hotel I realized that I couldn’t find my wallet with all my ID, several credit cards and about $400 cash in it. F$%K!! That truly sucked! I called the venue immediately and left a voice mail and I called again in the AM. BTW at this point I had also begun to realize that I had really slammed my tailbone pretty badly as well as one of my arms on the way down and it was difficult to do anything :-0 like ohh I dunno, sit, bend over – breathe! Everything hurt – a LOT! But I was really concerned about how I was going to get through the next 36 or so hours without any cash or credit cards.
Luckily hubby reminded me that I had gotten a Discover card in the god-kid’s name and it happened to be there so breakfast at McDonald’s was handled. And then – I got the miracle phone call! The venue called to tell me that they had indeed found my wallet. I didn’t dare ask ask if everything was intact because I was just so happy that my ID was found! But of course there was the issue that we couldn’t run over there right this moment because the bf was heading home and my godchild and I were getting ready to go see – LOUIS TOMLINSON!! (OK if you don’t know who that is the caps may have been lost on you but if you do know – you get it!) LT is one of the band members of One Direction which is one of the all time most popular boy bands in history. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that there were people on the sidewalk from very very early in the morning. By 10 am when I went downstairs the line wrapped around 3 entire city blocks! There were kids in sleeping bags and pop up tents for upwards of 12 hours – outside in February! I was not looking forward to standing on a line that long with the kid’s back as bad as it is.
Fortunately for my favorite kid (and me) – Aunt Suze had learned a trick the night before and I went to the box office and asked about ADA allowances and was told to come back at 530 and we would be allowed in and given access to a seating area before they open the flood gates and let the tide of people pour in. This was amazing! It truly worked out really well for my buddy because she / they got a front row seat (albeit behind the standing room only pit) but had a perfect view and could pop up and dance for brief periods of time and then sit back down comfortably and enjoy the show and not be in pain for hours. My butt on the other hand wasn’t thrilled but that couldn’t be helped – LOL. Louis did an amazing show and afterward we walked the half block back to our hotel room and then I power walked the 1.4 miles back to the other venue to collect the wallet!
About a half block from the venue I saw a girl couldn’t have been more than her mid 20s, curled up in a blanket on the sidewalk shivering like mad. I had no idea what her story was but I remember thinking if there is ANY cash still in that wallet, I am going to try and get her out of the cold for a bit. And yes, when I got back to the main office – my entire wallet was intact! I could not even have imagined that that would have been possible, but there it was! Yungblud was playing again – and doing an apropos song about misunderstood youth and as I walked out I found that girl and handed her a $50 bill and said that I was feeling pretty blessed and lucky and that I wanted to pass it on. She nearly burst into tears and I really hope she was able to get warm for a bit at least.
I made my way back to the hotel a bit slower this time and thinking about how over all what an amazingly lucky weekend it had been, even if I did break my butt – haha! I have long believed that when good things come to you – you have to send them back out and on to others to keep that energetic flow moving. It’s basic Law of Attraction stuff and it has worked out for me many times.
As for my butt – that still sucks. The drive home was brutal but I made it and here it is a week later and I still have to be REALLY careful how I sit but – I still feel grateful for so many things. Brett gave me an amazing bracelet for Valentine’s day. Truly beautiful! And I got quite a few well wishes from several of my loyal friends and playmates. 🙂 If any of you are reading this – I count YOU among my blessings.
Sending much love to you all! Suzanne
YOU are a GOOD person and I’m happy to call you a friend!
Now you know how my ass feels when you paddle me.
Aww thanks 🙂 I don’t think I’ve ever actually broken your tailbone yet but I can definitely try harder!
I am happy that your wallet was found and that nothing was missing. Good things still can happen in this world and there are a lot of honest people who will do the right thing..
That’s awesome! Glad you were able to help her out!
OMGosh me too! It felt great to “pass it on”. Hope to see you soon!
