of Mice and Mistresses …. so we were less than 36 hours from getting on a plane to Denver and Brett felt a teensy little sore spot on the right side of his neck … that became larger and more tender as the day went on, and then over night it BLEW UP to a really large area of his neck and throat that was swollen and inflamed. (Yipes!) Definitely time for a trip to the Urgent care place who basically took one look at him and sent him to the ER! Four hours later, multiple DR’s looking at him, bunches of tests, bloodwork CT scan etc they decided it was sepsis cellulitis and gave him IV antibiotics. The general consensus was that it was not a good time for him to take off cross country on a bunch of hikes through state parks etc.
So I scrambled to try and cancel the airfare, car rental and hotel reservations at 4 different locations trying to see how much of it was going to be refundable at this late stage. Luckily, most of it is either a credit or refundable. All told it looks like we may have lost just under $600.00 bucks but what really stinks is that we are missing the family gathering that his poor sister was so excited about us attending. π We tried looking at dates to rebook and it is just not going to happen this year before the weather turns really cold again in that part of the country. But hopefully we can retry this itinerary in the late spring of 2023.
I am glad though that Brett didn’t try to be a hero and think he could do this anyway. He is definitely not a wuss and I have seen that man in some serious pain in the past (open heart surgery comes to mind) and I can tell you that he was definitely hurting there for the last day and a half. Last night he had a really rough night between the pain and the off and on fever and chills … but today he is looking a lot better thankfully. The hospital called to check on him and said if his temp starts t rise again at any point we should head back to the ER right away! So my fingers are crossed that he is over the hump and on the mend since he says the affected area seems to be getting somewhat smaller but wow- it still looks scary sore. π
So all that said – I am bouncing off the walls a bit today. Between being worried about him and not wanting to leave him alone for long in case he needs anything, and having absolutely no motivation to do anything else around here beyond feeding my critters and checking mail, I am feeling a tad useless at the moment. So that’s my drama for the day – feeling grateful it was not way worse but still a bit disappointed.
Ohh and it looks like I will be home all next week after all, if any of you charming wonderful people want to come here and let me torture you to relieve some of my aggravation drop me an email or text. Just saying …. <grin>
So sorry about not going on your trip, but health, especially loved ones, are always more important and glad that you caught that in time and he will recover sooon.
Thanks – I definitely agree. We are told this definitely could have been much more serious had he not gone in when he did.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery and happy future adventures!
It’s a bit HOT out west right now anyway…
Yeah it’s a bit hot here at the moment too – hope you are well. π
