So a few months back I was doing some reminiscing in the blog about my kink journey, and some of the spaces and people that have helped me along the way. I think I left off at Mahopac / Shrub Oak. In December of 2000 I moved to Poughkeepsie NY and rented a large 3 story house. I remember that move ruefully because it is really not fun moving tons of boxes and furniture in the snow and ice. Ughh and I distinctly remember doing my best to settle in just in time for Christmas and buying my first artificial Christmas tree.
I had playrooms spaced out on multiple levels of the house which wasn’t ideal but it worked for a long time. The room you entered at the back door I called the Temple. It had a suspension rig and a free standing cross / spanking bench combo piece that I really loved. I tried to keep the room fairly low key and not a lot of obvious kink equipment because my favorite little person was still pretty young and we had to walk through that room to get to the kitchen and the rest of the house. Again not ideal and was one of the major reasons why I left the house as they got older and were noticing things more.
The second floor had my office., my bedroom a second bathroom and a guest room that I also used for play when I hosted parties for the local kink group HVDS – Hudson Valley DS. The top floor had the dungeon, the medical room and my cross dressing parlor. I didn’t like that there wasn’t a bathroom closer to the upstairs playrooms so my folks had to walk down a flight of steps when nature called and that could be awkward. Did I say not ideal? LOL
But all in all I was pretty happy there for quite sometime. I met some amazing folks when I was in Poughkeepsie – quite a few of whom still visit me here on occasion. But renting a place can be a hassle not to mention the uncertainty and constant stress of rent hikes. When I first got there the rent was $1300 a month plus utilities which was a large nut to crack as a single woman but over the course of 10 years my landlady inched the rent up just enough to make it too much of a hassle to move over and over every year until I was paying $1800 a month plus all the utilities. It was kind of like putting a frog in a pot of water and turning the heat up slowly – yes uncomfortable but I can handle a little more – ok maybe a just a little more again … until it really got to be a lot! I felt exhausted and stressed quite a lot of the time just trying to cover the rental expenses, plus the utilities, heat, water, electricity. phone bill, car ins, food, toys! – you know the essentials. <grin> Everyone kept telling me I could get a mortgage for quite a bit less than that but of course even though I had a really great credit score I was in a cash business which made it difficult to get a mortgage without verifiable income.
Then I met Tom G who rented a room from me for a bit and became a really close friend. Tom was not crazy rich but he was comfortable and after knowing him a few years he offered to help me buy a house and became my “bank”. He and Brett and I looked at a bunch of house in the Hudson Valley and couldn’t find anything that was within my price range that was worth buying. I was not looking for a mansion and I did not want to bite off more than I could chew again. I was definitely looking to destress a bit. 🙂
Tom came with me to look at the place in CT and when we saw it we knew it was perfect for me. I could have all the play rooms on one level, we could separate them from vanilla people and little guests, the yard was small but manageable and had potential (I love my garden). Less then 4 days after looking at it I made an offer and Boom! – within a month or so I was over here for a few days at a time painting and fixing while still doing sessions in Pok. I was really glad I had the ability to take my time and set up things at the new house while still working out of my old dungeon a few days a week. We moved in Memorial Day weekend 2010 and I am pretty sure I will be here until the day I die. 🙂 I don’t mind winter when I don’t have anywhere I have to be and since Brett has retired and finally moved in, I have live in housekeeping and yard service. <wink>
